Stream Deck Plugin: Cue for Apple Music

I have used Clade to create a Stream Deck Plugin for Apple Music. To my incredible surprise and dismay, Elgato seems to have quietly removed the Apple Music Stream Deck Plugin. It’s one of my favorite plugins, so I decided to create a replacement.

*Disclosure: The plugin was written entirely with Claude Code. The images and some of the copy associated with the plugin were also generated with Claude.

Features

I wanted to recreate the original plugin, plus add a support for dials, add a Playlist feature, and fix a long-standing bug.

Included Keys

• Play / Pause shows the current album art in all instances now (this was the bug). Paused dims the cover behind a play triangle; playing adds a small pause badge.
• Next Track move to the next track
• Previous Track restarts the track, or steps back if you are in the first three seconds.
• Shuffle toggles shuggle. It reflects Music’s current state
• Repeat cycles off, all, one, also showing the current state.
• Favorite favorites the track that is playing.
• Playlist lets you pick a playlist to start, shuffled if you want.

Dials (Stream Deck + only)

The original plugin never had dial support, so I added simple ones for volume and music control.

• Volume Turn for volume, press to play or pause, tap to skip.
• Transport** Turn to change track, press or tap to play or pause. The
  touch strip shows the track and artist.

**Claude used the word Transport. It’s origin apparently dates back to tape-machines.

Installing

1. Download the zip.
2. Double-click org.casabona.cue.streamDeckPlugin. Stream Deck installs it and adds a “Cue for Apple Music” category to the actions list on the right.
3. Drag any action onto a key.
4. The first time you press one, macOS asks whether Stream Deck may control Music. Say OK. Nothing works until you do.
5. If you miss the prompt, turn it on in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation > Stream Deck > Music.

This is a plugin I created for my personal use and released to the public in-case it’s useful to anyone else. It is not supported software, and I make no guarantees on performance or future releases. Use at your own risk.

Runs entirely on your Mac through the Music app’s own scripting interface. No account, no sign-in, no network access, no telemetry.
